8th CAREC Think Tank Development Forum Report

The CAREC Institute has published proceedings from its 8th Think Tank Development Forum (August 27-28, 2024, Almaty), where regional policymakers and experts addressed climate challenges across Central Asia. The forum discussed (i) strategies to achieve balanced economic growth and dynamics of global climate governance; (ii) Asia in the global fight against climate change and CAREC region’s climate vulnerabilities; (iii) innovative technologies for climate change mitigation and adaptation; (iv) ensuring multistakeholder engagement on fixing climate finance; (v) integrating climate change into CAREC Program themes and (vi): the findings of CTTN Research Grants Program studies.

The forum advanced practical solutions for financing gaps in climate adaptation through technical dialogues on sustainable funding models and institutional capacity-building. Consensus emerged that coordinated regional strategies – combining technology investment, community engagement, and cross-border collaboration – are critical to addressing shared environmental threats. Participants endorsed enhanced multilateral cooperation to implement climate action roadmaps, with the CAREC Institute pledging to translate forum outcomes into policy frameworks aligned with global sustainability targets.
