On 17 June 2020, the CAREC Institute delegation led by Deputy Director One Mr. Liang Ziqian held a consultation meeting with the Research Center of Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RECEECA) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Urumqi, the PRC.

On 16 June 2020, CAREC national focal points (NFPs) held a virtual meeting to discuss the economic impact of and response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the region. Progress of trade, transport, energy, tourism, and economic corridor development under CAREC was reviewed. Necessary adjustments to the CAREC calendar of events were discussed.

The seminar aims to conclude with an outcome document that outlined key discussions, recommendations, and follow up actions.

The CAREC Institute and the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 27 May 2020 in Urumqi, Xinjiang, the PRC.

The CAREC Institute Director Mr. Syed Shakeel Shah was invited to participate and present at the Asian Development Bank (ADB)'s webinar titled New Approaches to Measuring and Assessing Regional Cooperation and Integration held on 16-17 April 2020.

On 9 April 2020, the CAREC Institute Capacity Building Division representatives met with the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to discuss areas of cooperation.

The delegation of CAREC Institute led by director Mr. Sanjaasuren Bayaraa visited Ashgabad, Turkemnistan on 15th November to participate in the 17th Ministerial Conference.

On 9th November, 2018, the Director General of International Cooperation and Service Center/Foreign Airlines Service Center of CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China), Mrs. Qingfen Meng and two retinues visited CI and a meeting was held to discuss the collaboration between two organizations.

Delegation of CAREC Institute led by director Mr. Bayaraa Sanjaasuren traveled to Baku, Azerbaijan for signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the CAREC Institute and the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA (TRACECA).

CAREC Institute staff celebrated the 1st anniversary of the establishment of the Institute as an intergovernmental knowledge and research institution.
