Meeting with the Delegation from the Center for Contemporary World Studies of China and the Foreign Affairs Office of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
On March 30, the joint delegation from the Center for Contemporary World Studies of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, represented by Deputy Director General Mr. Liyong Wang, and the Foreign Affairs Office of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, represented by Deputy Director General Mr. Yongsheng Li, visited the CAREC Institute.
Mr. Kabir Jurazoda, Director of the CAREC Institute, warmly welcomed the members of the joint delegation and provided brief information about the institute’s current knowledge products and services. The CAREC Institute’s research products advise the CAREC national governments on policy actions to address the region’s most pressing issues. The institute publishes a variety of analytical papers and organizes forums, conferences, policy dialogues, and capacity building events for policy needs of CAREC member countries.
Representatives of the CAREC Institute shared the results of the institute’s recent analytical work, emphasizing the importance of economic cooperation among CAREC countries in the areas of trade, investment, green and digital economy, promotion of ESG standards in finance, energy, water resources, and agriculture. As a knowledge institution, the CAREC Institute sees the strength of cooperation among CAREC countries in creating and sharing knowledge. Knowledge helps policy makers to lead countries to prosperity, specialists to develop new technologies, increasing labor productivity, quality of life and well-being of people. The development of human capital is one of the most important aspects of regional cooperation. The countries of the region are eager to learn more from the PRC about economic policies, science and technology.
Mr. Liyong Wang spoke about the activities of the China Center for Contemporary World Studies. The Center was founded in 2010 and conducts research in the fields of international relations, global social and political trends, economic and social development. The Center led to the establishment of the Belt and Road Think Tank Association, which incorporates 141 Chinese and 122 foreign think tanks from countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. The Center actively conducts exchanges and research discussions with international analytical centers and research institutes. Mr. Liyong Wang invited the CAREC Institute to become a member of the Belt and Road Think Tank Association.
Mr. Yongsheng Li welcomed the Director of the CAREC Institute to Urumqi and spoke about the political commitment of the local government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to expand economic cooperation and knowledge exchange with neighboring countries to promote the Belt and Road Initiative and the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation.
