Dr. Kuat Akizhanov Joins CCICED 2024 AGM, Advocating Green Transition

Dr. Kuat Akizhanov, Deputy Director Two at the CAREC Institute and Special Advisor to the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), participated in the CCICED 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Beijing from October 10-12. This year’s AGM, themed “Open, Inclusive, and Innovative Cooperation to Build a Clean and Beautiful World,” featured a series of key sessions including the Opening Plenary, Open Forums, Policy Research Dialogue, and Closing Plenary. The event attracted around 400 attendees, comprising CCICED members, both Chinese and international experts, and various global partners.

During the Opening Session, Dr. Akizhanov delivered remarks that underscored the urgency of adopting innovative and non-traditional strategies to combat climate change and promote a green economy. He championed equitable redistribution mechanisms, particularly vital for CAREC economies dependent on natural resources, to ensure alignment with sustainable development goals. On the following day, he participated in forums centered on carbon reduction and green transformation, presenting the critical role of technology in improving air quality standards and facilitating the shift to renewable energy in the CAREC region.

Dr. Akizhanov’s active participation at the AGM highlights the CAREC Institute’s pivotal role in shaping international environmental policy. His contributions to the CCICED’s Policy Recommendations for 2024 are poised to propel a comprehensive green transformation across society and the economy. His involvement not only solidifies the Institute’s esteemed position within the international policy-making arena but also bolsters its impact on China’s environmental governance strategies.
