CAREC Institute Strengthens Academic and Governmental Collaboration in Host City

The CAREC Institute (CI) hosted a significant working meeting at its Urumqi headquarters, uniting representatives from leading academic institutions and government departments of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR). This gathering underscored CI’s commitment to advancing strategic partnerships and fostering regional economic cooperation and sustainable development.

Moderated by Deputy Director One, Dr. Huang Jingjing, the meeting brought together prominent academics and key stakeholders to explore innovative opportunities for collaboration. In his opening address, CI Director Mr. Charymuhammet Shallyyev underscored the Institute’s central role as the knowledge hub of the CAREC Program. Highlighting Xinjiang’s pivotal location along the Silk Road Economic Belt, he emphasized its strategic potential as a bridge between East Asia and Europe. Mr. Shalleyyv reiterated CI’s mission to generate actionable insights, facilitate capacity-building initiatives, and foster partnerships that empower member countries to achieve inclusive and sustainable growth.

Deputy Director Two, Dr. Kuat Akizhanov, provided an in-depth overview of the Institute’s operational framework and priorities, including plans for a robust knowledge research hub. CI division chiefs elaborated on impactful programs such as the Visiting Fellowship Program, CAREC Chai events, the School for Policymakers, CAREC Think Tank Network, and other flagship initiatives designed to support regional economic integration and cooperation.

Academic representatives from esteemed institutions such as the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Xinjiang University, Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics, and Xinjiang Agricultural University shared their perspectives. Meanwhile, government representatives outlined strategies to align academic and governmental priorities with regional development goals.

The discussions underscored the importance of forging long-term partnerships between the CAREC Institute and local academic institutions. Key proposals included collaborative research initiatives on critical areas such as free trade development, climate change adaptation, digital transformation, and food security. Participants also advocated for the creation of a high-level development forum to facilitate regional dialogue and drive policy innovation. Integrating foreign expertise and inviting global scholars to enhance academic programs emerged as another priority, along with initiatives to involve Ph.D. students in CI’s research activities to nurture young talent and equip future leaders with practical skills to address regional challenges.

The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from the CAREC Institute to deepen ties with academic institutions and research organizations across Xinjiang. By fostering such collaborations, the CAREC Institute envisions a future where regional partnerships drive innovation, growth, and prosperity for all member countries.
