CAREC Institute Participates in SIPA Dialogue on Sustainable and Resilient Freight Connectivity in Central Asia
On 11-12 March 2025, the SIPA Policy Dialogue on Sustainable and Resilient Freight Connectivity in Central Asia took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The event was organized by the International Transport Forum (ITF), the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan, the International Climate Initiative (IKI), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP). It gathered high-level officials from Central Asia countries, and representatives and sector experts from international organizations such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and the CAREC Institute, etc.
The dialogue focused on connectivity, sustainability and resilient issues, including sustainable infrastructure investment, trade facilitation, and the modernization of logistics chains. Dr. Ghulam Samad, Chief of the Research Division at the CAREC Institute jointly with ADB Transport Team shared CAREC Transport Strategy 2030 and Midterm Transport Strategy Review plan and initiatives in the similar direction.
At the event, participants committed ongoing efforts to enhance transport logistics, infrastructure, and energy efficiency while reducing the region’s carbon footprint. Key areas for future collaboration include speeding up the adoption of green transport technologies and supporting initiatives to make the transport sector more sustainable.
