CAREC Institute Announces Call for Applications for 2025 Visiting Fellows Program
The CAREC Institute is pleased to announce the launch of its 2025 Visiting Fellows Program (VFP), supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The program offers scholars the opportunity to conduct research aligned with the CAREC 2030 operational cluster priorities.
The VFP aims to generate high-quality research outputs, including working papers and policy briefs that contribute to the body of knowledge on regional cooperation and integration.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be citizens of ADB member countries and affiliated with universities, research institutes, or think tanks in those countries.
- Ideally, applicants should have completed post-graduate degrees (PhDs).
Thematic Areas
- New Phase of Digital Market Development
- Climate Adaptation and Resilient Infrastructure Mechanisms
- Tourism Development and Policy Initiatives
- New Energy Dynamics, Food Security, and Water Resource Management
- Economic Policy Responses to External Shocks and Productivity Growth
Note:
- Preference will be given to proposals employing a multi-country analysis.
- Priority for proposals addressing cross-border issues within the CAREC region.
- Focus on strategically important policy challenges in the region.
Fellowship Term
The fellowship duration is three (3) months, including up to one month in residence at the CAREC Institute Headquarters (HQ) in Urumqi, People’s Republic of China. Extended stays may be considered with exceptional approval from CAREC Institute management.
Fellowship Benefits
- Conduct in-depth research on priority issues in the CAREC region

- Publish research through working papers, policy briefs, and DevAsia summaries
- Receive an honorarium of USD 10,000 for the fellowship duration
Important Dates
- Call Opens: 10 April 2025
- Abstract Submission Deadline: 30 April 2025
- Fellow Selection Notification: 10 May 2025
- Visit to CAREC Institute HQ: 30 June – 30 July 2025
- Final Submission Deadline: 30 August 2025
Application Process
Interested applicants must submit the following by 5:00 PM (Manila/Beijing time) on 30 April 2025 to racheall@carecinstitute.org:
- A draft research proposal (minimum 2,000 words)
- A completed VFP application form
- An updated CV (maximum two pages)
Applicants will receive an acknowledgment upon submission and will be informed of the outcome by the specified selection date.
